Subway sandwich shop basement upgrade
membrane system
The shop had a basement area ideal for the storage of bottled drinks and for locating a draught soft drinks system.
The problem
The basement was suffering from constant water penetration and general
dampness effectively making it unusable.
The solution
As the wall surfaces were painted and would require substantial preparation work
before a cement based tanking system could be used, it was decided to use a cavity-drain
plastic membrane system.
Design features
As the basement already had a drainage system, it was possible to link them to the drains
within the tanking system removing the need for a sump or pump.
The restricted width of the basement meant that a metal stud wall had to be kept tight to the wall membrane.
Two extractor fans with humidity sensors controlled relative humidity within the basement.
